OUTFITTING

April 1, 1911 to April 1, 1912 :
Belfast - NORTHERN IRELAND

Titanic's supplies and equipment come from all corners of the British Isles. By ship, rail and truck, thousands of components converged on Harland & Wolff's Irish shipyards in Belfast. Outfitting continued throughout the summer and autumn of 1911.

Although her real owner is American and her official owner British, the Titanic is an Irish ship, built with the care, skill and honesty of Irish workers and craftsmen.

On September 18, 1911, the date of the Titanic's maiden voyage was announced as March 20, 1912. But two days later, an unforeseen event forced the W. S. L. to change this date, and in so doing, changed the course of history.

On September 20, 1911, the Olympic was accidentally rammed by the Royal Navy cruiser Hawke, and some of the Titanic's workers were reassigned to her repairs. With construction of the Titanic falling behind schedule, W. S. L. changed the date of her maiden voyage to Wednesday April 10, 1912.
